New Roommates and a Small Hike

Hello Faithful Readers!

We have been pretty boring lately because we didn't have the same day off last week and this week we work every day. Tragic, but we will survive!

We will use this entry to introduce our new roommates!

Adriana
Is she the cutest? She is 18 (almost 19) and it is her 2nd summer working here. She is from Oakdale, California. and works at The Kone Kompany and Klothes Rush, but she prefers The Kone.
She just finished her first year at Weber State. She is fun loving and bubbly. She is a really sweet girl and we are so glad that she is here!

Natalie

Now here is a crazy story! Natalie got here on Saturday night, like late late Saturday night. It turns out she graduted on Friday, went to her Senior party, and on Satyrday flew out! It was also her first time on a plane, ever!
She is such a cool gal! She will be working at Duffs. She will be attending UVU for school in the Fall where she will be studying Baking and Pastery. She is from Roosevelt, Utah and this is her first time living away from home. I hope we can be a good example for her. (:

Our biggest adventure was on Friday night we hiked out to Smugglers Cove and Ryan came with us. Smugglers is Aisha's favorite. Its a fairly easy hike and there is a place where you can climb on rocks. It would be a good place to see whales, if they ever show up!

Here are some pictures

This is Ryan and his buff arms. Ryan does this random thing where he finds a huge object and carries it back to where we start, When we went out to Dyea it was a chain thing and this time it was this piece of drift wood. It is so funny and random. He always makes us laugh and is a blast to be around!

That is it for this week! hopefully we will have other news to report on!

We got so high this week.....

5,052 feet high to be exact! On Thursday we went out with Ashlee, Stephanie, and Val to hike AB Mountain and oh my gosh it was craziest hike in the world! It is a 10 mile round trip hike and takes days for recovery. We started at about 10:30am and finished at 6pm. Its a lot of climbing and with the mud its very slippery.
Here is a photo dump of the hike!

BOOM! Skagway!

We made it!

The crew!

This was pretty much the most exciting thing that happened this week. Since the hike, it was a nice recovery. When we all got back we pretty much crashed. We got pizza and chilled around. This weekend was Victoria Day Weekend, which is Canada's version of Memorial Day Weekend so on top of the cruisers we had Canadians in town and buying loads of stuff. Apparently, some stuff is cheaper in the United States so people stock up on clothes and shoes. Its really funny to see.

Today (Sunday), we had ward conference, which was really amazing. The Stake President and one of his counselors flew in. Get this, the stake has 3 stake pilot callings! HILARIOUS and so cool! We also found out that the Juneau Stake is, 40,000 square miles less than the size of Texas! HOLY COW its so big! The Stake President talked a lot about weapons of rebellion and how we can put things into perspective and do the Lord's will. He was such a loving, kind man! This ward is amazing and we are really excited to be apart of it. We also got our Visiting Teaching assignments! We are companions so it will be really cool to do that together.

After church we went with Daniel, Ryan, and Sheeba to map out the marathon route. Mostly, we went along for the ride. We stopped at the Chilkoot Trail Head and walked around for a bit. It is always super fun to hang out with the fellas and Sheeba.

Four Hikes and One New Roommate

This week was not as busy as you would think in the shops. It was super slow and not as many customers. We had Wednesday off and went on a beautiful hike. We also got a new roommate! Before we go on about our hikes we will do our roommate spotlight!

Everyone meet:: Bailie

She is from Kaysville, Utah and is simply the sweetest and cutest girl in the ward. She just turned 20 and did not tell us that it was her birthday. We celebrated by eating delicious Brew Co and having ice-cream (funny side story). Bailie just graduated from Snow College and Dixie is in her future. She loves dogs and art. Today we took her on her first Alaska hike!

Now on to our 4 hikes we did! In total we hiked 17 miles and man it felt dang good!
Wednesday we had work off and so did Stephanie so we went up to Icy Lake and Upper Reid Falls. It was so beautiful and a really good hike. When we went to go to the falls we got a little lost, Ashley lost her water bottle :( and went off course but it was a good time.

John working in the Kone
Thursday we worked a half day since the cruise that was suppose to come in was cancelled. We worked upstairs and unpacked shoes. TONS AND TONS OF SHOES. But it was fun and nice to be away from crazy people asking crazy questions. It was pretty warm up there. The manger from the Kone Kompany, John, was super nice and made us milkshakes randomly. A quick spotlight on John: He is one of the coolest people you will find in Skagway. He is a native and when he isn't scooping ice-cream here, he lives in Portland where he races bikes. He is going to be going professional this next year. He is good for a laugh and is not afraid to make fun of you. Currently his thing is calling Aisha a Troll but she calls him Shrek. Little does he know, they will be best friends by the end of the summer.
After work we relaxed for a little but and that night we went on a hike with Sheeba to the Gold Rush Cemetery and Lower Reid Falls. The Cemetery was all old fashioned
and has lots of Skagway history. The Lower Reid Falls was amazing to see and to think we had just been to the top the day before.

Friday Aisha, Stephanie, and Ashlee went to a bonfire at Smugglers Cave, which is another hike. It was a beautiful hike that will be done again!

Saturday was Baillie's birthday and she failed to tell us. In Skagway everything, but the bars, close pretty dang early so we would not even get her a cake or anything delicious. HOWEVER, Little Ashlee saved the day! Earlier that day in radio-shack the freezer was left open and a bunch of ice-cream melted so they couldn't sell it and they were going to throw it away. So Ashlee just took it and put it in the freezer. We ended up having 16 pints of ice-cream in our freezer, however 16 are not in our freezer right now. oh boy! haha

It was a nice rainy Sunday here. Church was full! It seems like all the summer help is here and all ready to go! After church we went on what we thought would be an easy hike when it was actually 7 miles! Oh man it was so amazing out there. Alaska is seriously one of the prettiest places in the world. It was also Bailie's first Alaska hike!

At the end of Sturgil's Landing

And there you have it! This week we will be having more ships and customers so it will be busier! We have Thursday off so stay tuned for our next adventure!

Crew Members, New Roommates, and Dyea

We survived the first days of the cruisers! Regardless that they were only 500 people, we still survived. When people are cruising, they know what they want, when they want it. Sometimes it can be super hard to keep a smile on your face while providing great customer service. A lot of the crew members are straight off the boat (hahaha) Filipino, which makes it so you can hardly understand them and most of them smell so bad of cigarette smoke. If you need something to pray for, please pray that we can have the gift of tongues so we can understand them!

Our next roommates moved in making a total of 7 out of 11 here at the good ole Kone House! It is becoming a party. Right now we are watching Star Wars (May the 4th be with You, duh) and before that we had our Sunday Roommate Prayer. Everyone is so chill and cool! So now we will do roommate spotlight.

Steph making brussel sprouts
On Thursday, the lovely Stephanie arrived. It was kind of a funny story, Daniel, Ryan, and Aisha were sitting in the living room Thursday evening when they heard the front door open and someone just walk in. At first it was pretty scary but then this cute girl popped her head up and said , "Hi! I'm Stephanie. I'm suppose to be in the room downstairs but its full of boxes." She is working at Duffs and is a total outside junkie. She does seasonal work where in the winter she works at Park City in a Ski Shop. She also does cool things like snowboarding and split-boarding. She also loves to cook brussel sprouts and hers taste pretty dang good.
Alex all geared up.

Next we have Alex! He is a BRAIN! He is so tech savy. You could even call him a Skagway native, he has been coming up here for the past 10 years and his Aunt and Uncle are Karla and Duff. He served his mission in Bakersfield, California Mission. He is also the Ward Mission Leader and is very excited about missionary work! He is also willing to serve in whatever way he can. He is a really great guy!
Ashlee and Aisha at the Kone

Finally, we have Ashlee! She is such a sweet girl and so fun! She will be the one that keeps us all together and makes sure we have plenty of roommate bonding! She is from Logan and just finished her first semester at Utah State. She will be working at Radio Shack and it her also her first summer up in Skagway and is super excited to do all kinds of new things.

Dyea!
This weekend we had Stake Conference which was a neat experience because the members are so spread out we had it all televised from the church and it wasn't just us, but everyone in the surrounding areas had it televised. It was amazing! The members in Alaska are so strong! They talked a lot about loving and hastening the work. Something to take away from stake conference was that it doesn't matter who you are or where you are at in your life. Everyone is worthy of Heavenly Fathers love always. Unfortunately, we had to work this Sunday, even though there wasn't a ship so we didn't have a lot of people, mainly just Canadians coming down from White Horse. Those Canadians are crazy shoppers. One woman Ashley was helping came in for shoes, ended up throwing up in the garbage can and still left the store with four pairs of shoes!! It was a crazy time but Ashley being such a good sales woman kept her composure and rocked those shoe sales!! :)

Roommates!
After Ryan, Ashlee, Sheeba and us went to Dyea. It is about 13 miles and it was so beautiful! We played Frisbee on the beach for awhile, walked around the tidal flat lands,  and climbed rocks. It was great roommate bonding time!
One roommate spotlight we need to do is about Sheeba! She is 6 months old and is ALL puppy. We love her here at the Kone House! She is always full of cuddles and ready to play. She especially loves Ryan, basically, if she was human they would make the perfect couple! She loves chasing birds around and trying to sneak into the garbage to eat whatever she can find! She is so fun and we are lucky to have her around!

Lower Dewey Lake Hike

We have been in Alaska for a week and today was our day off. To celebrate, we went on a hike to Lower Dewey Lake. The hike was a little over miles and took us 2 hours to complete. It was so beautiful and the weather was perfect. Here are some pictures for you to be jealous about our adventure.

Start of hike

Right by the lake.

The Lake!

Look at that couch and Ashley!

We ended the hike by going to a cafe and eating delicious turkey guacamole sandwiches and milkshakes from The Kone. When we got home we watched Despicable Me 2 but we passed out because we were so exhausted. Alaska is so beautiful and we are excited to go on another hike on our next day off!

Until then!
