First Days of Alaska

On the plane to Skagway
We made it safely to Skagway and we are all settled in. We started off our Thursday by getting to the airport early for our 7:50 am plane ride, that was delayed for one hour. We got into Juneau at about 10 am and went to go to our next flight, which was a super small plane. When you check your bags they weigh EVERYTHING and even ask for your own weight, to make sure the plane does not go over the limit.  The thought seems scary, but it wasn't at all! There was about 8 people all together on this plane and the lady sitting behind Ashley almost had a heart-attack, she did not like that plane ride!
The plane ride was about 40 minutes and it was so beautiful! We flew directly over the water! It is something everyone should do at least once in their lives. Before getting on we heard that the ferry dock in Skagway had sunk that morning so there was a lot of concern about getting the ferries into Skagway. We are really lucky that we had decided to fly then ferry in. It was really weird to fly in and not see a dock.

When we got into Skagway, we were picked up at the airport by our lovely boss (and owner) Karla. She loaded our stuff up and brought us to the house where we dropped our stuff off. After awhile we went into the store to get started on our paper work and orientation (on the clock, might we add). After we got some pizza, a movie, and headed home. Where we would soon meet 2 of our new roommates, Daniel and Ryan. They are super cool guys! They have been here for a few weeks, they drove all the way from Utah. Daniel had a cute dog who is way fun to play with. Playing with her is a favorite past time.
Ryan and Daniel crabbing.

Now we will do a roommate spotlight:
Ryan is from Utah and this is his second summer being up here. According to Ryan, he is here to explore to Alaska and the job is on the side, but he is a freight dude. He loves being outdoors and is an Ironman. Oh and ladies he has huge biceps. :)
Daniel is from all over, but for convenience we will say Utah and Idaho. He enjoys the outdoors as well and is a wildlife biologist. He runs likes a mad man and you probably couldn't catch him, if you tried. You can always find his trusty dog by his side, Sheba.

Friday we helped set up for the Kone Kompany's grand opening. We were so tired that we forgot it was Friday and basically did nothing cool that night.

Saturday, Ashley worked at the Kone Kompany's Grand Opening for the season, They celebrated 32 years of business by selling 32 cent hot dogs, soda, cotton candy, and popcorn. They gave away prizes for the kids who were lined up first. One of the girls was at the door at 3 am and the Kone did not even open until noon! The first 3 kids get a free ice cream for one month! Lucky ducks! Ashley had a lot of fun and enjoyed seeing people again. She is very excited for the ships to start coming in. Aisha worked in the Klothes Rush where so many Canadians came in! She heard "ay", "about", and "guy" multiple times. Even though she was still being trained, she seemed to be doing okay. She ran up and down the stairs so many times for people to try on different shoes. Later Aisha went on an adventure with Ryan to put away tables and pick up merchandise.
The Church!

Ryan and Daniel updating their blog
Sunday we went to our cute branch that is LITERALLY in our backyard! The chapel is also used as a cultural hall. The members are so wonderful and friendly, most of them are people that we work with so it will be interesting jumping back and forth from first names and Brother and Sister titles. After church we came home and hung out for a bit and then went by the Kone for a milkshake and picked up another movie.

Right now we are all sitting around and updating our blogs. Ryan and Daniel are the guy version of Ashley and Aisha so it is really fun to be around them. However, they wont share their blog with us, what losers! (:

This week is packed with work, work, and more work! We have Thursday off and we plan to go hiking. Friday is the first cruise ship day and we are really excited to see all the people and keeping on going. Hope you all enjoyed this!

Love From Alaska.
